Earth & Water Exhibit

'Earth&Water' Exhibition 2012 - Lichfield Library - 15 - 25 September

Lichfield Library Gallery; Top Floor, The Friary, Lichfield, Staffordshire, WS13 6QG

I had chosen the subject: ‘EARTH and WATER’ for my exhibition, because of the images that have inspired me through my global travels to Venice, Cambodia, Morocco and the French Alps amongst others; ‘Landscapes’ and ‘Forms’ of colour and light - natural or man-made that captivated me from the confined heat of Morocco to the vast coolness of the French Alps.

The medium I've chosen is Acrylics. I’ve been working in Acrylics since 2008 and absolutely love its adaptability. I like to push the boundaries of this medium; to 'work' it like an oil painting and watercolour together. I use my own or my clients’ images and create multiple layers or merge them and sometimes incorporate ‘Symbolisms of Art’ to tell a story. This adds another level of interest for me and others as there’s more to a painting than just what meets the eye. I like to build up my canvas and sculpt it with acrylic modelling paste using pallet knives and other improvised tools, either to intensify the sense of three-dimensionality or to create a hidden image or meaning. It makes my paintings more personal and interesting to paint.

I was present from 10am – 4pm and enjoyed meeting my visitors, intrigued by their reactions to my work and hearing why.

Twenty Percent of net proceeds raised in 2012 was in aid of Little Hearts Matter.

Little Hearts Matter is a national charity offering support and information to anyone affected by the devastating diagnosis of a single ventricle heart condition, children born with half a working heart. It works to raise awareness of the needs of these children and their families.
